As you consider a wind turbine, you should also consider other components necessary to complete a system. 

Systems under 2kw are usually off grid.  Above 2kw it starts to become more cost effective to be grid tied. However, it is also more expensive to get there.  Grid tied, UL approved inverters can be $2,000.00 or more.

In addition to a turbine, an off-grid system will require at least one battery to store power generated. This allows having power when there is no wind. If you wish to connect ac appliances or tools of any kind, a DC to AC inverter is required.
